Indus Waters Treaty: President of the North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI), Faisal Moez Khan, has urged Pakistan to strengthen its diplomatic efforts to protect the country’s water rights, describing India’s proposed 7,250-megawatt hydropower network project as an act of “water aggression.”

Speaking to the media during a Haleem gathering at his residence in Karachi, Khan said Pakistan’s economy, agriculture, industry, employment and food security depend heavily on the country’s river water resources. He added that any attempt to interfere with Pakistan’s legitimate share of water would be unacceptable.

Khan called on the Government of Pakistan, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to present Pakistan’s position more effectively at international forums. He urged the government to advocate strongly for the protection of the Indus Waters Treaty, international water laws and the rights of lower riparian states at upcoming global conferences.

He said Pakistan should continue pursuing diplomatic and legal avenues to safeguard its water interests while ensuring that the country’s legitimate rights receive international attention.

Khan also urged India to honour international agreements and legal commitments instead of escalating regional tensions. He warned that using water as a political tool could undermine regional peace and jeopardise the livelihoods and food security of millions of people.

Commenting on the recent attack on the Pakistan Rangers headquarters, Khan condemned the incident and paid tribute to the Rangers personnel who lost their lives. He said the nation would always remember the courage and sacrifice of its security forces and acknowledged their continued role in combating terrorism.
