Youm-e-Istehsal observed in Beijing as Pakistan renews support for Kashmir at embassy event

Pakistan’s Embassy in Beijing marked Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir on August 5 with a ceremony reaffirming the country’s unwavering political, diplomatic and moral support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. The event commemorated the seventh anniversary of India’s actions of August 5, 2019, in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which Pakistan continues to describe as illegal and unilateral.

The ceremony brought together diplomats, academics, think tank representatives, media professionals and members of the Pakistani community. Messages from Pakistan’s President, Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister were read during the event, reiterating Islamabad’s position on the Kashmir dispute.
More than 100 words into the event’s proceedings, Youm-e-Istehsal remained the central theme as Pakistan’s leadership condemned what it described as India’s continued human rights violations in IIOJK. The messages reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people and urged the implementation of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, calling for a free and impartial plebiscite under UN auspices to determine the future of Jammu and Kashmir.
Mr. Qian Feng, Director of the Research Department at the National Strategy Institute of Tsinghua University, and Mr. Cheng Xizhong, Senior Research Fellow at the Charhar Institute, emphasized the importance of resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute peacefully in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Speaking at the ceremony, Aizaz Khan, Chargé d’Affaires at Pakistan’s Embassy in Beijing, criticized India’s actions in IIOJK, describing them as inconsistent with international law and UN Security Council resolutions. He also raised concerns about the situation of Muslims in India and the reported treatment of Kashmiri youth in the region.
The event concluded with the screening of a documentary and a photographic exhibition highlighting the human rights situation in IIOJK since August 5, 2019. Participants from academia, think tanks, the media and the Pakistani diaspora attended the ceremony, reflecting continued engagement with the Kashmir issue.
