Lahore: Senior executives from Syngenta held high-level meetings with Punjab officials to discuss solutions for Pakistan’s evolving agricultural challenges and strengthen collaboration on sustainable farming.

The delegation met Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan and Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, focusing on enhancing productivity and resilience in the agriculture sector.

Syngenta’s regional leadership, including Alex Berkovskiy and Jerome Barbaron, was accompanied by Zeeshan Hasib Baig and Ali Murtaza. The discussions highlighted the importance of modern crop protection technologies, bio-stimulants, and policy reforms to improve access for smallholder farmers.

Pakistan’s agriculture sector — a key contributor to employment and major crops such as wheat, rice, cotton, and sugarcane — continues to face mounting pressures from climate variability, including erratic monsoons, floods, and droughts.

Syngenta representatives noted that taxation on agricultural inputs remains a significant barrier, limiting farmers’ ability to adopt climate-resilient technologies.

Zeeshan Baig reiterated the company’s long-term commitment to Pakistan, emphasising the need for collaborative efforts to ensure food security and sustainable agricultural growth.

Punjab officials expressed willingness to continue dialogue, stressing the importance of science-based policy reforms to support farmers and strengthen the sector’s long-term stability.
