KARACHI – Indus Motor Company (IMC) held its 26th Annual Quality Control Circle (QCC) Convention under the theme “Workplace Development & Employee Motivation – Way to Standardized Work” in Karachi recently.

The convention was aimed at recognizing the spirit of Kaizen (Continuous Improvement), one of the two core pillars at IMC and its business partners. Raheel Asghar, Senior Director Technical IMC welcomed the participants and attendees at the QCC Convention. He highlighted Kaizen as the essence of IMC’s business operations.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Adviser to Chief Minister of Sindh on Law, Environment, Climate Change, Coastal Development and Spokesperson for Sindh Government, said

“Engaging the employees for continuous improvement as practiced by IMC is an absolutely essential element for our national progress. I would also like to adopt this approach by engaging citizens for our campaigns on Tree Plantation and Say No to Plastic. We would only be able to achieve positive results if we have a strong government-citizen partnership.” He further added, “If I would abbreviate QCC for me it would be, Quality, Care and Control. If all of us try to focus on quality, taking care of our surroundings and then controlling the situation; so I feel a very positive partnership between the government and the citizens.”

Expressing his views, Ali Asghar Jamali, CEO IMC, said, “As one of the leading companies in the country, we take our responsibilities regarding quality checks very seriously. One of our core pillars is

to continuously improve our standards while adhering to the global qualitative benchmarks. It gives us immense pride to host our 26th QCC Annual Convention and we look forward to hosting it for many more years to come.” He added,

“We would like to support the government and would like to pledge a workforce of 1,000 people for the cleanup drive. We have pledged to plant 1 million plants across the country, out of which we have already planted 150,000 plants and we ensure our full support to the government for the Tree Plantation campaign.  ”

A total of 15 teams, including 10 from IMC, 2 from its network of vendors and 3 teams from the network of dealerships, presented their Kaizen efforts in improving quality within their respective business areas.

The coveted Gold Medal was won by the Quality Assurance and Quality Control Department, which will represent IMC at a Global Quality competition in Japan later this year. The ‘Jig Shop’ bagged the Bronze Medal whereas the Silver Medal was presented to the ‘Weld Shop.’ Product Development Commercial department won the non-manufacturing category, Atlas battery won the supplier category and Toyota Lyallpur Motors won the dealership category.

Over 500 attendees convened at the event comprising IMC suppliers, dealerships, senior management from IMC and House of Habib (HoH). Eminent business personalities and distinguished officials from the automobile and engineering industry, educational institutions, and the government were also present at the event.
