KARACHI – Leadership of Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (KATI) voiced grave concern over havoc created in Karachi after moderate rainfall at the beginning of this week.
Patron in Chief of KATI SM Muneer and President Danish Khan urged CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah to overhaul city’s infrastructure on war footings. Construction of flyovers on the main entry points of Korangi Industrial area was also demanded.
SM Muneer said the despite the largest city, the commercial and economic hub of Pakistan Karachi had been deprived of due attention from the concern authorities and administration. He said that it is a great matter of concern the after moderate rainfall infrastructure of Karachi collapsed and citizens suffered hours-long traffic jams. “This unveiled the shortcomings of infrastructure and administrative flaws” he added.
Mr. Muneer said that due to mismanagement in the city during the spell of rainfall economy and business activities had suffered a lot. He urged CM Sindh to take immediate notice of the situation and issue a directive to resolve the concerning issues.
President KATI Danish Khan said that being the largest Industrial Area of the Country, we pay hundreds of million Rupees to the national exchequer on daily basis, and we even don’t get the basic facilities to keep running industrial production in return.
He said that the main three main entry point of KIA; EBM Causeway, Jam Sadiq Bridge and Main Korangi Raod Passing through the Malir riverbed were either chalked with the traffic or affected by rainwater.
“In case, the rain cycle would continue in coming years this area could be cut off from the city” he added. He said that Jam Sadiq Bridge has become volatile and could cause a disaster.
He said that there is a need to provide an alternative route for the heavy traffic of the industrial area. He also demanded the construction of flyovers on all these entry points.
He said that administration of the city had been failed to respond emergency like situation. He urged to establish a disaster management cell for immediate response to any such situation.
