Prof. Dr. Arabella Bhutto joins HEC’s National Task Force on higher education reforms
Arabella Bhutto, Vice-Chancellor of Shaheed Allah Bukhsh Soomro University of Art, Design and Heritages (SABS University), has joined the National Task Force (NTF) established by the Higher Education Commission> (HEC) to reform higher education degree programmes and curricula.

The appointment recognises her academic leadership and expertise in higher education. Moreover, it gives SABS University an opportunity to contribute to national education reforms.
HEC Chairman Niaz Ahmed Akhtar constituted the task force. The committee includes leading academics and education experts from across Pakistan.
The task force will prepare a roadmap to modernise higher education. It will also review undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes offered by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
Furthermore, the committee will create a national audit framework to evaluate university curricula. It will identify programmes that need revision, consolidation, modernisation or replacement.
In addition, the task force will recommend new academic disciplines that match global trends and the demands of Industry 5.0.
The committee will also propose a national policy to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital competencies and future skills into university education. At the same time, it will recommend ways to align academic programmes with national development priorities, labour market needs, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Additionally, the task force will suggest an institutional framework for establishing a National Future Skills Observatory. It will also design a system for the continuous review and renewal of university curricula.
After completing its work, the committee will submit a comprehensive report to the Higher Education Commission for consideration and implementation.
The nomination of Prof. Dr. Arabella Bhutto highlights her contribution to higher education. Overall, the appointment strengthens SABS University’s role in shaping Pakistan’s future education policies and curriculum reforms.
