HYDERABAD: Tensions escalated at the holy shrine of Masooma-e-Sindh Khadija Bibi Maham (S.A.), the revered daughter of Imam Musa Kazim (A.S.), following an incident of sectarian provocation and desecration allegedly led by Ghulam Rasool Qureshi and members of a religious group. According to reports, the group staged a protest at the shrine, chanted inflammatory slogans, and disrespected sacred relics preserved at the holy site — an act that has drawn widespread condemnation.
In a joint press statement, leaders of Tehreek-e-Nafaz-e-Fiqh-e-
“The patience and peace-loving nature of our community should not be mistaken for weakness,” the leaders emphasized. “We will not tolerate insults to our sacred personalities or the desecration of holy relics.” The incident is believed to be connected to efforts to obstruct officially sanctioned development work at the shrine. Following a verdict by the Sindh High Court Circuit Bench in Hyderabad, the Sindh Auqaf Department had commenced construction at the shrine of Bibi Maham (S.A.). However, Ghulam Rasool Qureshi and his associates allegedly tried to halt the project and provoke sectarian unrest. “This is not the first attempt by these elements to stir discord in the region,” the statement noted.
The religious leaders further revealed that the same individuals were allegedly involved in a previous attack on the shrine during Eid-ul-Fitr, where they caused vandalism. A First Information Report (FIR) of that incident is already on record at Gulab Leghari Police Station.
The joint statement urged the Government of Sindh, the district administration of Badin, and all relevant security agencies to take immediate notice of these sectarian provocations and initiate strict legal action against those responsible for inciting unrest.
Additionally, the leaders appealed to Shia organizations and mourning groups across Pakistan to raise their voices in unison and stand firm in defense of their sacred sites.
