The Dow Institute of Nursing & Midwifery welcomed foreign visitors from Kyrgyzstan.

Karachi: The prospect for collaboration in developing nursing education between Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan is quite promising. Dow University is prepared to broaden its nursing education collaboration. In response to questions about the possibility of collaboration from the Kyrgyz delegation, Professor Rubina Hafeez, the head of the Dow Institute of Nursing and Midwifery, said that senior faculty may be sent to Kyrgyzstan.

A group of senior nursing educators from Kyrgyzstan, along with Dr. Yasmin Parpio and Rifat Jahan, arrived to observe the educational assessments and classes of the institute. The delegates were impressed by the technology and the facilities in the simulation training centre of DOW Institute of Nursing & Mid-wifery. The delegation was given a detailed briefing about the institute’s robust and comprehensive curriculum. Followed by a visit to assess the resources, facilities and infrastructure provided in the department, which has been setup for clinical practice and training of students.

The delegation was welcomed by Prof. Rubina Hafeez, the delegates get to know that The Dow Institute of Nursing and Midwifery is a comprehensive educational institution providing education. The delegation consists of Ms. Gulzat, Ms. Alima, Ms. Gulnara, Ms. Gulnoor and Mrs. Gulzat.

These visits broaden the prospective of our foreign guests about DUHS and Pakistan. They discussed on academic collaboration through meetings with educators, teachers, and nursing leaders to discuss regarding academic programmes, curriculum, educational standards, and guidelines. The potential collaboration to explore opportunities of mutual benefit regarding the profession of nursing were discussed.

Various programs including educational activities, educational standards and guidelines issues were discussed, which included meeting the shortage of nurses including the development and quality improvement of the nursing sector in accordance with the SDGs set by the World Health Organization. According to Professor Rubina Hafeez, there is a need for more hospitals-affiliated educational facilities like Dow Institute of Nursing and Midwifery. By providing best education in nursing and midwifery, the main goal is to strengthen and improve the nursing system in Pakistan’s hospitals. Every attempt is made to give the underprivileged access to better medical facilities. We aim to improve the quality of care in all public and private hospitals to the same level as per the global standards.

She added that because our skilled nurses are in such high demand all over the world, there is a need to increase the number of nurses both globally and in Pakistan. The proportion of nurses in hospitals should be in line with global standards. Pakistani women should pursue nursing as a profession like they would any other. Like western countries, the nursing sector should also be given respect and importance in Pakistan.

The delegates expressed their appreciation and evaluated DIONAM’s goal for empowering the nursing profession in Pakistan. The delegates were especially impressed by the DIONAM educational standards. Prof. Rubina Hafeez addressed that, Nurses play a significant role in raising public awareness about illness prevention through community service in addition to treating hospital patients. The guests received a traditional Ajarak gift as a souvenir of their visit.
