SIUT facilitates cornea donation to help two visually impaired people regain their sight
KARACHI, October 5, 2026: The family of a 21-year-old dialysis patient has donated his corneas for transplantation, helping two visually impaired people regain their sight at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT).
According to an SIUT press release, Abdul Samad, a resident of Purana Golimar, had received dialysis treatment at the institution since April 2025. He developed kidney failure because of a genetically inherited kidney disorder.
Doctors said Samad’s medical and family history did not allow him to undergo a kidney transplant. His elder brother had also been receiving dialysis at SIUT since 2016.
Brothers Shared Their Dialysis Journey
The two brothers regularly travelled to SIUT together for their dialysis sessions. Nephrologists treating them said the brothers supported each other throughout their treatment.
Samad’s family also had a history of organ donation and transplantation.
His maternal uncle received a kidney transplant at SIUT in 1986. Samad’s mother, Pervin, donated her kidney to her brother.
Pervin also works at SIUT as a technologist in the Pathology Department.

Family Turns Loss Into Organ Donation
Samad had studied up to Class Five and helped his father run his shop. His prolonged illness and the family’s personal experience with organ transplantation shaped their decision after his death.
The family chose to donate Samad’s corneas for transplantation. The donation gave two visually impaired people an opportunity to regain their sight.
SIUT praised the family for making the decision during a difficult period. The institution described the donation as a courageous and humanitarian gesture.
SIUT Calls for Greater Awareness
SIUT also highlighted the importance of raising public awareness about deceased organ donation.
The institution said such donations can give people with severe visual impairment and other medical conditions a chance to improve their quality of life.
The family’s decision has also highlighted how organ donation can transform a personal loss into an opportunity to help others.
