Sindh Governor Calls British Council Library a Treasure Trove of Knowledge

Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi has praised the British Council Library for promoting knowledge, culture, history and civilisation. He described it as a valuable resource for young people seeking to explore different cultures and societies.
He also said the Prime Minister of Pakistan wants to provide young people with library facilities alongside digital devices. This approach, he added, would help them benefit from modern technology while developing a lasting habit of reading.
The governor made these remarks as chief guest at a ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the British Council Library’s relaunch.
British Deputy High Commissioner Alison Blackburne, the library director and other officials welcomed him at the event.

Governor Highlights Importance of Reading
Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi highlighted the library’s role in providing knowledge and information to young people. He stressed that reading remains essential, even as digital technology becomes increasingly important.
Moreover, he noted that libraries help develop young people’s intellectual abilities. They also broaden their horizons and encourage curiosity through books and learning resources.
The governor appreciated the British Council Library’s services and acknowledged its contribution to spreading knowledge and raising awareness.
He expressed hope that the institution would continue to support young people’s intellectual development. He also emphasised the importance of creating more opportunities for learning and reading.
Certificates Presented to Library Members
At the end of the ceremony, Governor Sindh distributed certificates to individuals and children. They had demonstrated outstanding performance in various library membership categories.
The event marked a decade since the library’s relaunch. It also highlighted the continuing role of libraries in supporting education, cultural awareness and lifelong learning.
