KARACHI: Shehbaz Sharif recently went on a one-day visit to Karachi focusing on the key Hutchison Port’s South Asia Pakistan Terminal (SAPT). This visit has emphasized the determination of the government to develop the maritime sector of Pakistan which is vital for the growth of economy and trade.
During the visit to SAPT, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was given a detailed briefing about the terminal and its importance, particularly being one of the world’s deepest-water terminals that exist in Karachi. The briefing focused on the contemporary modus operandi of SAPT through recourse to automation in managing operations in an effort to enhance container processing and transport.
Innovations made at SAPT include the use of modern technology and better scanners to ensure that the terminal is in line with the international standards. Not only these technological improvements improve operational effectiveness, but also the abilities of scanning containers, which play a significant role in the quickening of trade transactions and security.
While appreciating SAPT’s ideas, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif told the FBR chairman to focus on placing modern scanners in all ports of Pakistan. The purpose of this directive is to ensure that Pakistan’s ports have the latest equipment that can perform container scans using modern artificial intelligence technology at a high rate of speed.
Communication with the port authorities comprised of statements about the collective measures to enhance the SAPT functionality. The Prime Minister highlighted the significance of ports for enhancing the export industry of the country and reiterated government’s commitment to all the schemes pertained to augment the export of the nation and provide employment to the people.
In the future, the government is highly determined to develop efficient sea transport links especially linking the Central Asian states, China and other trading partners via Pakistani sea ports. All these endeavors remain helpful in creating the much-needed recognition for Pakistan as a major trading and commercial center in the region backed up by strong infrastructure and progressive policies.
