KARACHI, Aug. 7: The Pakistan-Romania Friendship Monument has received official approval for construction in Karachi, marking a significant step in strengthening cultural diplomacy and bilateral relations between Pakistan and Romania.
The approval was formally handed over by the Commissioner Karachi to the leadership of the Pakistan Romania Business Council (PRBC) during a meeting attended by Sohail Shamim Firpo, Chairman of PRBC, and Atif Farooqi, Advisor and Chief Operating Officer of the council.

According to PRBC, the monument will be installed at the intersection of Dr. Mehmood Hussain Road and Shahrah-e-Faisal, following approval granted by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
The project aims to commemorate more than six decades of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Romania while symbolising friendship, mutual respect and expanding cooperation in trade, culture, education, local governance and people-to-people exchanges.

Project Inspired by Romanian Ambassador
The initiative is the vision of Dr. Dan Stoenescu, Romania’s Ambassador to Pakistan, who has consistently promoted cultural initiatives designed to strengthen ties between the two countries.
PRBC officials said the monument will serve as a lasting symbol of the shared commitment to deepening bilateral relations and promoting greater cultural understanding.
Atif Farooqi said the project reflects the strength and continuity of Pakistan-Romania relations and that PRBC will work closely with civic authorities to ensure the monument accurately represents the historical and cultural links between the two nations.
PRBC Appreciates Official Support
On behalf of the council, Sohail Shamim Firpo thanked Commissioner Karachi Mr. Naqvi for supporting the initiative and facilitating the approval process.
He also acknowledged the contribution of Ms. Iqra Jannat, Assistant Commissioner (HQ) at the Commissioner Karachi Office, for her coordination and assistance in advancing the project.
PRBC said it will supervise the construction and future maintenance of the monument in collaboration with the relevant government authorities.
Road Naming Proposal Under Consideration
In addition to approving the monument, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has indicated that a proposal to rename a nearby road as “Constanta Avenue” or “Constanta Road” will be presented before the KMC Council during its upcoming session for consideration.
Officials believe the monument and the proposed road naming initiative will further strengthen Pakistan-Romania relations while contributing to Karachi’s urban landscape and cultural heritage.
