According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Pakistani delegation also included Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The group was received by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi upon arrival.
A senior Iranian source cited by Reuters said Field Marshal Munir’s visit aims to help “narrow gaps” between Tehran and Washington amid continued indirect communication between the two sides through Pakistani channels.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that message exchanges with the United States are ongoing. Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said multiple communications have been exchanged via Pakistani intermediaries since the Iranian delegation returned from recent discussions.
He noted that while nuclear negotiations remain sensitive, discussions over uranium enrichment are continuing, adding that Iran insists on maintaining enrichment capabilities based on its national requirements.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran must be able to continue enrichment based on its national needs,” Baghaei stated, while indicating that there is room for dialogue on the level and type of enrichment.
The visit comes after rare direct Iran–US talks held over the weekend, which ended without agreement but are seen as part of continued efforts to reduce tensions in the region.
