Hunza Hotel Fined Rs1.5 Million for Alleged Sewage Dumping in Attabad Lake
Authorities in Gilgit-Baltistan have fined a hotel in Hunza Rs1.5 million and sealed several rooms after it was accused of discharging sewage into Attabad Lake. The action was taken after British vlogger George Buckley posted a viral video on Instagram showing what appeared to be wastewater being released into the lake.
In response, the local administration inspected the site, identifying damaged manholes, and took immediate action against the hotel.
However, the hotel denied the allegations in a statement shared on social media, saying Attabad Lake has been their home for six years and they would never harm it. They insisted their waste disposal system meets all environmental standards and poses no risk to the lake.
The hotel further explained that the cloudy water near their premises was caused by natural streams bringing mud, rocks, and minerals, which may have created a misleading impression.
