WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, held a high-level meeting with former U.S. President Donald J. Trump at the White House, as reported by ARY News citing ISPR.
The luncheon meeting, held in the Cabinet Room and followed by a visit to the Oval Office, included key figures such as U.S. Secretary of State Senator Marco Rubio and Steve Witkoff, Special Representative for Middle Eastern Affairs. Accompanying the COAS was Pakistan’s National Security Advisor.
During the discussion, Field Marshal Munir conveyed Pakistan’s gratitude for President Trump’s pivotal role in facilitating a ceasefire during a recent crisis with India. He also praised Trump’s leadership and understanding of global challenges.
President Trump commended Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and its strong counter-terrorism cooperation with the U.S. Both leaders agreed to continue working closely in security and anti-terrorism initiatives.
The talks extended beyond security, covering cooperation in trade, economic development, minerals, artificial intelligence, energy, cryptocurrency, and emerging tech. Trump expressed strong interest in establishing a long-term, strategic trade relationship with Pakistan.
A significant part of the discussion focused on tensions between Iran and Israel, where both leaders emphasized the need for peaceful resolution. President Trump praised Munir’s leadership during complex regional developments.
The meeting, originally planned for one hour, lasted over two, reflecting the depth of bilateral engagement. Field Marshal Munir also extended an official invitation to Trump to visit Pakistan, highlighting the growing warmth in Pakistan-U.S. relations aimed at fostering peace and prosperity.
