Commissioner Karachi Reviews Development Projects and Funds Utilisation

Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi chaired a meeting to review development projects and the utilisation of development funds across the city.

The meeting brought together municipal commissioners from Town Municipal Administrations, engineers from the Karachi Development Authority (KDA), Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC), Water and Sewerage Corporation and other development agencies.

Deputy Commissioner Korangi Dr Masood Bhutto, Director P&D Commissioner Office Naseem Bhutto, and assistant commissioners from Korangi also attended the meeting.

Officials Brief Commissioner on Development Work

Municipal commissioners and chief engineers briefed Naqvi on ongoing development schemes in Korangi District. They also provided updates on projects being carried out by their respective departments.

Following the briefing, the commissioner directed officials to accelerate work. He stressed the need to complete development schemes within the approved timelines.

All Assistant Commissioners in Korangi District will inspect ongoing projects in their respective subdivisions. The Deputy Commissioner will also hold monthly meetings with relevant departments to monitor progress.

Deputy Commissioners Asked to Remove Project Hurdles

The commissioner directed deputy commissioners to support municipal agencies in resolving obstacles affecting development projects.

Under the new monitoring mechanism, deputy commissioners across Karachi will review development and municipal works in their districts every month. They will coordinate with assistant commissioners and take steps to address delays.

Officials must also ensure that projects meet required quality standards and comply with legal requirements.

Focus on Funds and Project Transparency

The meeting reviewed several aspects of development schemes. These included ongoing and completed projects, expenditure of development funds and technical considerations linked to financial planning.

Officials also examined proposals aimed at improving transparency in development work. The commissioner stressed the importance of proper monitoring during both project execution and financial management.

Regular reviews will help authorities identify delays and address issues before they affect project completion.

Property Tax Recovery Also Reviewed

The meeting also examined property tax recovery by the city’s towns.

Commissioner Naqvi directed deputy commissioners to assist municipal administrations in improving tax collection. He called for efforts to broaden the property tax net.

According to the commissioner, stronger recovery will help towns meet their financial requirements. It will also support government efforts to increase municipal resources.

The administration will continue reviewing development work and revenue collection as part of its monthly monitoring mechanism.
