News of US Congress Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s upcoming visit to Taiwan has increased China-US tensions.
China has issued a stern warning to the US that China may use military force if the US official visits Taiwan.
According to an American newspaper report, through a telephone call on Thursday, Chinese President Xi Jinping warned US President Joe Biden to refrain from meddling in the Taiwan dispute.
Washington and Beijing have long been at loggerheads over Taiwan, which China claims is part of it and can take it back by force if necessary.
Nancy Pelosi will be the first high-level US official to visit Taiwan since 1997.
