The agreement strengthens an existing partnership and focuses on improving treatment for oral cancer and breast cancer. As a result, both institutions aim to reach more patients and improve access to specialised care.

Strengthening Cancer Treatment

These diseases remain the most common cancers affecting Pakistani men and women. Dr. Asghar H. Asghar, Director of KIRAN, and Dr. Jehanzeb Mughal, Head of the Cancer Surgery Unit at PEBS Hospital, signed the agreement.

Meanwhile, Dr. Shakeel Abbas Rufi, Member (Science), PAEC, and Dr. Shazia Fatima, Director General Nuclear Medicine and Oncology, joined the ceremony virtually from Islamabad. Their participation highlighted PAEC’s commitment to expanding quality cancer care across Pakistan.

In addition, Shehzad Hasan, Member (Finance), PAEC, and Mohsin Fayyaz, Member (Power), supported and coordinated the partnership process.

Improving Patient Access

Under the agreement, both institutions will improve referral systems and strengthen treatment pathways. Consequently, patients will receive earlier diagnosis and faster access to specialised services.

The partnership will also support awareness campaigns on oral cancer prevention. At the same time, both organisations will encourage early breast cancer detection. Therefore, they expect better health outcomes and a lower disease burden.

Research and Knowledge Exchange

Furthermore, PEBS Hospital and KIRAN will organise scientific meetings, workshops and educational programmes. Through these activities, medical professionals will exchange research, clinical knowledge and practical experience.

Officials from both institutions said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing cancer care. Moreover, they said the initiative will provide greater support and hope to patients and families across Pakistan.

The KIRAN delegation included senior officials from radiation oncology, medical physics, diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine, laboratory services, administration and accounts. Similarly, the PEBS Hospital delegation included specialists in cancer surgery, maxillofacial surgery and breast surgery.
