LAHORE: Funeral prayers of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz- wife of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif- were offered in Lahore’s Sharif Medical City on Friday
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Mian Nawaz Sharif, son-in-law Captain (retired) Safdar, party president Shehbaz Sharif along with a huge number of PML-N leaders and supporters attended the event.
Delegations from other political parties including the PPP, the MQM-P and PSP reached Lahore to attend the funeral.
Kulsoom Nawaz, who passed away on September 11 in London, will be laid to rest near the graves of her father-in-law Mian Sharif and brother-in-law Abbas Sharif at Jati Umra after funeral prayers led by famed religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel.
A government delegation comprising Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar and National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar also reached Sharif family’s Jati Umra residence earlier today to attend the funeral and burial ceremony.
The flight carrying Kulsoom Nawaz’s casket landed at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore in wee hours on Friday after a short ceremony and funeral prayers in London. Shehbaz Sharif, Asma Nawaz, and ten other members of the Sharif family accompanied the coffin on the flight (PK 758) to Lahore. Sons of Hussain Nawaz have also come along with the body of their grandmother.
Nawaz Sharif offered Fateha at the graves of his father and brother at Sharif medical city.
Born into a Kashmiri family in Lahore, she attended Islamia College and Foreman Christian College University for her graduation. Kulsoom was married to Nawaz Sharif, with whom she has four children. Kulsoom Nawaz served as the President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) from 1999 to 2002.
The lady breathed her last at a hospital in London on September 11 after prolonged illness. The political career of the former first lady remains far from any controversy, unlike embroilment of her family members in different cases.
