KARACHI: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi has taken oath as Chief Scout Sindh, calling for the revival of scouting in schools and colleges to help develop disciplined, responsible and patriotic young citizens.
Provincial Scout Commissioner Justice (retd) Hassan Feroz administered the oath to the governor during a ceremony attended by scout leaders and other participants.
Speaking on the occasion, Nihal Hashmi said scouting was an important way to promote patriotism, discipline and a sense of public service among young people. He stressed the need to restore scouting activities across educational institutions.
The governor said national development required more than technological progress. Strong values, knowledge, discipline and good character were equally essential for building successful nations.
He urged families and educational institutions to encourage young people to love their country, serve society and help others. According to him, the younger generation has a key role in shaping Pakistan’s future.

Nihal Hashmi also recalled the historical role of scouts in national events. He said scouts had previously played a prominent role in public activities and represented Pakistan as its ambassadors.
He called for the revival of Chief Scout programmes, Girl Guides and the National Cadet Corps. He said these platforms could help young people develop leadership skills and a stronger sense of responsibility.
Looking ahead to 2047, the governor said Pakistan should aim for a future where every school and college has scouts and Girl Guides actively contributing to the country and society.
During the ceremony, Nihal Hashmi also planted a sapling as part of a tree plantation campaign. The activity highlighted the importance of involving young people in environmental protection alongside community service and national development.
