Karachi Commissioner Praises Youth Talent at Dawood University Independence Day Ceremony
Syed Hassan Naqvi says freedom brings both opportunity and responsibility as students showcase national unity and talent

KARACHI: Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi attended an Independence Day ceremony at Dawood University of Engineering and Technology as chief guest, urging young Pakistanis to use their skills and opportunities to help build the country’s future.
The Independence Day ceremony was held on August 14 and brought together students, parents, faculty members and university officials. Commissioner Naqvi hoisted the national flag and later joined participants in cutting the Independence Day cake.
The ceremony was also addressed by Türkiye’s Consul General in Karachi, Ergul Kadak, and Dawood University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Samreen Hussain.
Students presented national songs and delivered speeches highlighting the importance of independence. They also performed tableaus promoting national unity, harmony, love and solidarity among different communities.
Commissioner Naqvi distributed certificates to outstanding students and faculty members in recognition of their academic achievements and services.
Addressing the gathering, Naqvi said freedom was both a precious blessing and a responsibility. He said young people today have greater opportunities to learn, develop their skills and demonstrate their abilities than previous generations.
He encouraged students to take advantage of these opportunities and play an active role in shaping Pakistan’s future. He also praised their speeches and tableaus on issues of national importance.
“Our youth possess tremendous talent, and their abilities are a valuable asset for the country,” Naqvi said. He added that the confidence and enthusiasm he saw among the students offered hope for Pakistan’s future.

The commissioner expressed confidence that Pakistan’s young generation could help the country progress towards becoming a developed nation. He said their talent, energy and determination were important national assets.
Reflecting on his own connection with Dawood University, Naqvi said the institution had once been his first choice for admission. He recalled visiting the university to obtain an admission form but eventually decided not to proceed due to certain circumstances.
He was later admitted to NED University of Engineering and Technology.
The ceremony concluded with continued Independence Day celebrations, as students and faculty reaffirmed their commitment to national unity, education and Pakistan’s progress.
