NAB arrests Asif Ali Zardari in money laundering case

Islamabad: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday arrested Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari in fake accounts case, GNN News reported.

Heavy contingents of law enforcement agencies (LEAs) were deployed to avoid any untoward incident whereas all roads leading to Zardari House were closed for traffic.

A three-member medical board of PIMS performed medical checkup of Asif Ali Zardari at NAB Rawalpindi office. The medical board was headed by consultant physician Dr. Asif. The co-chairman of PPP has been shifted to NAB Rawalpindi and will be produced before accountability court on June 11.

Zardari and Talpur have the option of appealing the IHC judgment in the Supreme Court.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari urged party workers to remain calm. “The people have never accepted controversial court verdicts,” he was quoted as saying.

It has been learned that a seven-member team of the anti-graft watchdog will probe Asif Ali Zardari.

Protests erupt in various cities

Following arrest of PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, the stalwarts started protest in various cities including the Punjab capital Lahore.

Enraged stalwarts raised slogans against the government and blocked Metro Bus.

Likewise, protesters also held rallies in the federal capital Islamabad.

Fumed stalwarts of PPP forced shopkeepers to shutdown their shops in Sukkur. Police arrived on the scene to keep situation under control. Likewise, enraged members of the PPP came out on roads in Larkana and forced closure of the business centers. Similar situation was observed in Knadhkot, Nawabshah, Thatta and Badin.

Also, sit-ins have also been staged at scattered places in the aforementioned cities.

In Karachi, the enraged members of the PPP set tires on fire and blocked the roads for every kind of traffic.
