Andy Murray will miss the Monte Carlo Masters and Munich Open next month as he continues to recover from a severe ankle injury sustained during the Miami Open. The 36-year-old rolled his ankle in the deciding set of his match against Tomas Machac, resulting in ruptured ligaments and an extended period on the sidelines.

In a statement from his team, Murray confirmed his decision to withdraw from the upcoming tournaments after consulting with his medical team. While the exact duration of his absence is still uncertain, Murray expressed his disappointment and reiterated his desire to return to the court as soon as possible.

Murray, a former world number one and three-time Grand Slam champion, had previously indicated that he did not plan to play much beyond this summer but hoped to compete at another Olympics. He also expressed his intention to participate in the French Open, which begins on May 26.

The Monte Carlo Masters is scheduled for April 7-14, followed by the Munich Open from April 15-21. Murray’s absence from these events will be a setback for the British tennis star as he aims to return to top form following his hip resurfacing surgery in 2019.
