KARACHI: FrieslandCampina Engro Pakistan Limited (FCEPL) has partnered with the State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan (SLIC) to introduce a dedicated life insurance programme for dairy farmers, marking a first-of-its-kind initiative in Pakistan’s dairy sector aimed at strengthening financial security for farming communities.

Under the initiative, titled the “Dairy Farmers Insurance Programme,” more than 1,500 farmers and their families will receive insurance coverage during the initial phase. The programme offers protection in cases of accidental death or permanent disability, ensuring financial stability for households dependent on dairy farming — at no cost to the farmers.

FCEPL, a leading multinational in the dairy and nutrition sector, said the initiative aligns with its broader commitment to sustainable agriculture and farmer welfare under its “Doing Dairy Right” framework.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Managing Director Imran Hussain emphasized that building a sustainable dairy ecosystem requires more than just production. “Investing in the well-being and resilience of farmers is essential. By introducing structured life insurance at no cost, we are setting a new benchmark for farmer welfare and responsible business practices in Pakistan,” he said.

The programme will include farmers across FCEPL’s extensive network, including small-scale producers, reflecting a major step toward inclusive development within the agricultural value chain.

SLIC officials highlighted the initiative as a significant move toward financial inclusion. Chief Actuary Faisal Mumtaz stated that the collaboration offers a one-year accidental death and disability insurance cover at preferential terms, addressing income vulnerability at the household level.

“This initiative provides immediate financial protection and supports risk mitigation for underserved farming communities. It strengthens resilience and promotes scalable microinsurance solutions within the agriculture sector,” he added.

The collaboration between FCEPL and SLIC reflects a shared vision to go beyond business objectives by supporting rural livelihoods, enhancing social protection, and contributing to a more sustainable and inclusive agricultural economy in Pakistan.
