Speakers at a reception on Thursday said Pakistani women are highly gifted and empowering them is central to the national development.

The Constitution of Pakistan clearly states that men and women are to be given their fundamental rights with no discrimination, they said.

Speaking at a reception held in honour of Samina Baig, the first Pakistani female to put the national flag on top of the world’s highest mountain, Lt. Gen (Retd) Masood Aslam, Maj. Gen (Retd) Haroon Sikandar Pasha, Brig. (Retd) Aslam Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW), Nadim Sajid Mughal, Chief Coordinator, Tanzeem-e-Mughlia, Jhelum, Dr. Murtaza Mughal, Group Country Manager, United International Group and others congratulated Samina for creating history by becoming the first Pakistani woman to climb the Everest and other mountains.

We are here to celebrate the historic moment with Samina Baig, who brought honours for Pakistan with the support of her brother. She has become a source of inspiration for the women and girls in the country, they said.

They informed Pakistan is home to five of the world’s 14 mountains higher than 8,000 metres, and climbing them is considered the ultimate achievement of any mountaineer.

Climbing K2 is a far more difficult climb than Everest. K2 has only been scaled by 425 people while over 6,000 people have climbed Everest since 1953.

Lt. Gen (Retd) Masood Alam, a hero of Kargil and the war on terror, has encouraged and supported many climbers coming to Pakistan.

Maj Gen (Retd) Haroon Sikander Pasha appreciated the holding of such meet-ups to encourage the heroes of Pakistan.

Brig Muhammad Aslam Khan as a host welcomed all the participants, guests of honours and Samina Baig, who performed heroic feats. He thanked Dr Murtaza Mughal for arranging the event.

Dr Murtaza Mughal said that we do appreciate Nadim Sajid Mughal for his commendable work for humanity in the fields of health and education. He informed that UIG will always support and promote heroes.

In her speech, Samina thanked the organisations and individuals for showering her with appreciation. She said that without the support of her brother, she may never have been able to summit Everest.
