A truck transporting sacrificial animals was hijacked by armed robbers in Karachi’s Liaquatabad area on Tuesday night. The animals, reportedly worth Rs 60,000, had been purchased from Bhains Colony and were en route to Orangi Town when the robbery occurred.
According to police, the suspects — traveling in a car — intercepted the truck, held the driver at gunpoint, forced him out, and fled with the vehicle. CCTV footage capturing the robbery has surfaced, and an FIR has been registered. The report states that the driver was taken along in the suspects’ vehicle before being released a short while later. The abandoned, empty truck was found near Nipa Chowrangi in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, but the animals remain missing.
This incident mirrors a similar case from June 2024, when another truck carrying 30 sacrificial goats from Hyderabad was hijacked in Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi. Four armed men on motorcycles carried out that robbery near Kamran Chowrangi.
Meanwhile, Lahore has also seen such crimes. In Samanabad and Nishtar Colony, robbers snatched goats from citizens. Police managed to arrest one suspect in one of the cases, while another remains at large.
