KARACHI – The Government of Japan has conferred the prestigious decoration, The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon to Ms. Sadia Rashid, in recognition of her dedicated contributions for promoting mutual understanding and cultural relations between Japan and Pakistan.
The Commendation Awarding Ceremony was held today at the official residence of Mr. Toshikazu Isomura, Consul-General of Japan in Karachi.
Ms. Rashid made efforts to establish Pakistan Japan Culture Association (PJCA) in 2002. She contributed greatly to building cultural relations between Japan and Pakistan and promoting Japanese culture in Karachi as Vice President from 2002, and as President from 2009. Ms. Rashid played a major role in introducing Japanese language and culture through continuous management of Japanese language course under PJCA.
Founding Hamdard University and serving as Chancellor, Ms. Rashid conducted the academic and human exchange between Japan and Pakistan and took a leading place in spreading Eastern medicines to Pakistan. As President of Hamdard Foundation Pakistan, Ms. Rashid contributed to the development of cooperative relationship between Japan and Pakistan, especially in the area of disaster relief.
Consul-General Mr. Isomura, while speaking on the occasion, congratulated and appreciated Ms. Rashid’s substantial commitment for deepening the friendship between the two nations. Mr. Isomura also referred to the legacy of her beloved father, the former governor of Sindh Hakim Muhammad Saeed, who developed the warm relationship with the Japanese people and initially introduced Ms. Rashid to its culture.
