Russian Strikes Kill Eight in Ukraine as Zelenskiy Meets Trump at UN

Russian strikes killed eight people across Ukraine on Tuesday, Ukrainian officials said, as President Volodymyr Zelenskiy met US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

The overnight attacks targeted several regions, including Ukraine’s industrial heartland in the southeast.

Ukrainian officials said Russia struck businesses, warehouses and industrial facilities. The attacks also damaged energy infrastructure and disrupted electricity supplies.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi accused Russia of deliberately targeting economic infrastructure. Moscow has said its forces target military and strategic facilities.

Strikes Hit Key Industrial Cities

Russian forces struck industrial sites in Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih and Pavlohrad in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Regional officials reported casualties in Dnipro. A missile strike also damaged an industrial facility operated by Interpipe.

The company said four employees were killed and seven others were wounded. The strike damaged production equipment and infrastructure, forcing the facility to suspend operations.

The overnight attack involved missiles and drones.

Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 212 drones, along with cruise and ballistic missiles. Ukrainian authorities said air defence units intercepted or neutralised many of the incoming weapons.

Industrial facilities in Pavlohrad and Kryvyi Rih were also damaged.

Energy Infrastructure Also Hit

The strikes extended beyond industrial facilities.

An attack on an energy facility in northern Ukraine disrupted electricity supplies to nearly 100,000 consumers in the Chernihiv region, according to the local electricity distributor.

Naftogaz also reported damage to an oil and gas facility in the Poltava region.

The company said several ballistic missiles struck technological facilities at the site. It described the damage as critical and said restoring operations would be difficult.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces had targeted industrial and military facilities. It also said fuel and energy infrastructure, port facilities and vessels supporting Ukraine’s military were among the targets.

Ukraine Strikes Russian Oil Facilities

Ukraine has also intensified long-range attacks against Russian infrastructure.

The Ukrainian military said it struck the Ufa oil refinery in Russia’s Bashkortostan region. It also reported an attack on the Kuibyshev refinery in the Samara region.

The governor of Samara said Ukrainian drones struck civilian targets. One person was killed and four others were injured, according to Russian authorities.

Both Moscow and Kyiv deny deliberately targeting civilians.

The attacks came despite recent discussions over a possible pause in strikes against energy infrastructure.

Zelenskiy Meets Trump at UN

The latest strikes came as Zelenskiy met Trump in New York during the UN General Assembly.

The two leaders discussed efforts to end the war and the possibility of reducing attacks on energy infrastructure.

The meeting followed renewed attacks by both sides on energy and industrial targets.

Russia and Ukraine have increasingly targeted infrastructure linked to each other’s economies and war efforts.

The escalation has continued despite diplomatic efforts to establish limited agreements on energy facilities.

War Continues to Hit Ukraine’s Economy

Ukraine’s industrial regions remain central to the wider conflict.

The Dnipropetrovsk region is home to major steel, engineering and manufacturing industries.

Repeated missile and drone attacks have damaged factories, warehouses, energy facilities and transport infrastructure.

Russia has also increased its use of long-range weapons in recent months. Reuters reported that Moscow has expanded its use of ballistic missiles as part of its air campaign against Ukraine.

Ukraine, meanwhile, has stepped up drone attacks against Russian oil and energy infrastructure.

The continuing strikes underline the difficulty of reaching a broader ceasefire while both sides maintain attacks on strategic infrastructure.
