The Rotary Club of London has contributed $5,000 toward the development of an inclusive playground at Holy Family Catholic School, supporting the school’s long-running “A Place to Play” initiative aimed at transforming its outdoor recreational space.
The donation was formally presented by Don Stevens, Chair of the Local Service Committee, alongside Howard Shears, who has served as Rotary’s project champion. The cheque was received by School Council Chair Justin Dowdell, who has been spearheading fundraising efforts for the project over the past five years.
The planned playground upgrade is designed to provide safe, modern, and inclusive play equipment that encourages creativity, physical activity, and social interaction among children in London’s east end. School officials and community partners emphasize that the space will serve as a meaningful environment for learning through play while fostering friendship and inclusion.
The total project cost is estimated at $85,000, with $70,000 already raised through sustained student-led initiatives and broader community fundraising campaigns. Rotary’s latest contribution brings the project significantly closer to completion.
The Rotary Club expressed pride in being recognized as a “Champion of Play,” highlighting its commitment to community development and youth wellbeing through supportive infrastructure projects.
Once completed, the upgraded playground is expected to become a lasting community asset that enhances the daily lives and development opportunities of local children.
