Punjab Rain: Two Killed, Nine Injured in Rain-Related Incidents
Heavy rain and strong winds trigger wall and roof collapses across Punjab as the Met Office warns of a fresh monsoon spell.

At least two people died and nine others suffered injuries in rain-related incidents across Punjab in the past 24 hours. Rescue 1122 said heavy rain and strong winds caused wall, roof and signboard collapses. Spokesperson Farooq Ahmad said most casualties came from those collapses.
In Attock, a wall near Naya Pump collapsed and killed two people. The same incident injured three others. A roof collapse in Para Shaheen Bagh injured three more people. Lightning injured one person in Khushab’s Qaidabad area. Strong winds brought down a signboard in Sargodha and injured another person. In Sheikhupura, a wooden roof on Chak Risala Road collapsed and injured one person. Rescue 1122 teams reached all sites quickly and took the injured to nearby hospitals.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department said Mandi Bahauddin recorded the heaviest rainfall, with 23 millimetres between 8pm and 11pm on Wednesday. Murree received 17mm, while Hafizabad and Sheikhupura each got 14mm. Other areas also saw rain, including Gujranwala, Lahore Airport, Gujrat and Garhi Dupatta. Several other places also reported showers. They included Lahore, Jhelum, Mangla, Kakul, Balakot, Barkhan and Islamabad Zero Point. Chaklala, Kotli, Malam Jabba, Pattan, Chakwal and Dera Ghazi Khan also saw rain.
The PMD has forecast a fresh monsoon spell across the country in the first week of July. Monsoon rains run from June to September and help replenish water supplies and ease summer heat. Heavy downpours can also trigger floods, landslides, damage and deaths, especially in vulnerable and densely populated areas.
