The Punjab government has announced plans to establish a dedicated Tourism Police force aimed at improving security for both local and international tourists, according to media reports.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to fast-track the creation of this specialized unit, which will initially be deployed in key cities including Lahore, Murree, Nankana Sahib, Bahawalpur, and Kartarpur.
The force will operate under the oversight of the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police, with Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) managing local implementation.
To ensure high standards of safety and efficiency, the Tourism Police will be equipped with modern technology and specialized vehicles. Its core mission is to create a safe and welcoming environment for visitors and to secure major tourist destinations across the province.
Importantly, this new unit will function independently and will not be involved in routine law enforcement duties, focusing solely on the safety and assistance of tourists.
