Champions League action featuring PSG, Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester City in Tuesday's matches.

PSG defeat Barcelona as Liverpool fight back and Phil Foden shines in Champions League action.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) maintained their winning run in the UEFA Champions League with a 4-2 victory over Barcelona on Tuesday, while Liverpool produced a dramatic comeback to beat Villarreal 4-3.

The defending champions secured their third consecutive win in the league phase thanks to late goals from Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz. However, injuries to Ousmane Dembele, Marquinhos and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia raised concerns for manager Luis Enrique.

Manchester City also enjoyed a commanding night as Phil Foden scored a hat-trick in a 5-1 victory over AEK Athens. Meanwhile, Roma and Napoli recorded important wins, and Atletico Madrid drew with Stuttgart.

PSG Overcome Barcelona in Six-Goal Thriller

Barcelona twice fought back to level the score against PSG but ultimately suffered their first defeat of the season.

Desire Doue opened the scoring in the 38th minute, collecting the ball outside the penalty area before driving a powerful shot into the bottom corner.

PSG continued to threaten after the break, with goalkeeper Joan Garcia producing an excellent save to deny Achraf Hakimi. Barcelona then equalised through Xavi Espart, who broke forward against the run of play.

PSG suffered a double injury setback when Kvaratskhelia and Marquinhos both had to leave the pitch. Nevertheless, Lucas Hernandez restored the hosts’ lead with a superb header 18 minutes from time.

Lamine Yamal levelled again seven minutes later after powering past Warren Zaire-Emery. Vitinha then struck from outside the box in the 81st minute, before Ruiz completed the scoring with a close-range finish.

The 4-2 result gave PSG another convincing Champions League victory after they defeated Manchester City by the same scoreline the previous week.

“We don’t feel superior to any team but we trust in ourselves, in everyone who starts and who comes off the bench,” Ruiz told Movistar. “There’s still a long way to go.”

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick said his team had tried to maintain its usual attacking approach and press PSG high up the pitch. His side had won its previous 11 matches in all competitions before Tuesday’s defeat.

Liverpool Fight Back to Beat Villarreal

Liverpool preserved their perfect record with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Villarreal at Anfield after recovering from a two-goal deficit.

Georges Mikautadze capitalised on an error by Virgil van Dijk to put Villarreal ahead in the fourth minute. Sergi Cardona then broke through Liverpool’s defence to double the visitors’ advantage.

Alexis Mac Allister pulled one back nine minutes before half-time, heading home Kostas Tsimikas’s corner.

Liverpool equalised in first-half stoppage time when Ronald Araujo headed in at the back post after Cardona failed to intercept Rio Ngumoha’s cross.

Mac Allister completed the turnaround with a finish from Ngumoha’s square pass. Substitute Florian Wirtz then scored his first goal of the season to give Liverpool a two-goal cushion.

Tani Oluwaseyi set up a tense finish for Villarreal, but Liverpool held on to secure all three points.

Villarreal manager Andoni Iraola acknowledged the comeback but expressed concern about his team’s defensive record.

“We are facing very good teams. It’s good to come back but we’ve started losing too many goals this season,” Iraola told Amazon Prime.

Foden Hat-Trick Powers Manchester City

Manchester City cruised to a 5-1 win over AEK Athens at the Etihad Stadium, with Foden leading the attack.

Elliot Anderson scored his first goal for the club to put City ahead. Foden then doubled the advantage, continuing his recent improvement after scoring against Ipswich at the weekend.

Stavros Pilios reduced the deficit early in the second half, but Rayan Cherki restored City’s two-goal lead with a composed finish in the 57th minute.

Foden added two more goals to complete his hat-trick and seal a comprehensive victory. Erling Haaland did not feature after picking up a knock at the weekend.

“Slowly, but surely. Still got a long way to go, but I am going in the right direction,” Foden told TNT Sports as he discussed his return to form.

Roma and Napoli Secure Important Wins

Roma claimed their first Champions League victory since 2019 with a 4-0 win over Slovan Bratislava at the Stadio Olimpico.

Napoli also delivered a crucial result for Italian football, beating Bodo/Glimt 4-3 in an entertaining encounter. Scott McTominay scored twice as Napoli overcame a match in which their Norwegian opponents twice drew level.

Atletico Madrid shared the points with Stuttgart after a 1-1 draw in Germany, despite playing much of the second half with 10 men.

Borussia Dortmund ended a run of four consecutive away defeats in the Champions League with a 2-1 victory over Sabah in Baku.

The results kept PSG and Liverpool on a winning path, while Manchester City strengthened their position with a convincing performance led by Foden.
