Karachi: The governance leadership of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to extending humanitarian services to every corner of Pakistan, emphasizing stronger coordination, institutional development, and community-centered humanitarian action.

In collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Pakistan Red Crescent Society organized a three-day “Movement Induction Course & International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Workshop” in Karachi from May 11 to 13, 2026. The workshop brought together chairpersons, governance members, and representatives from all provincial branches of PRCS to strengthen understanding of humanitarian principles and operational coordination within the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
The workshop focused on enhancing participants’ knowledge of the structure and functioning of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, governance mechanisms, humanitarian values, and International Humanitarian Law. Detailed sessions highlighted the Movement’s organizational framework, roles and responsibilities, coordination systems, and legal protection mechanisms under IHL.
Opening remarks were delivered by PRCS Chairperson Mrs. Farzhana Naek, Chairman PRCS Sindh Rehan Hashmi, Head of Delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Andreas Weissenberg, and Head of Delegation of ICRC Christoph Sutter. The speakers stressed the importance of principled humanitarian action, institutional strengthening, effective governance, and collaborative efforts to address emerging humanitarian challenges across Pakistan.
A dedicated governance session emphasized organizational commitment, accountability frameworks, transparent information sharing, and the promotion of a strong governance culture aimed at enhancing institutional effectiveness and leadership capacity within the National Society.
Participants also exchanged experiences and discussed strategies to improve coordination among provincial branches, strengthen disaster preparedness, and promote humanitarian values at the grassroots level.
The workshop concluded with renewed commitments from all stakeholders to further strengthen humanitarian coordination, enhance operational capacity, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance to vulnerable communities throughout Pakistan.
