TURIN – It’s official: the new Fiat 500 Hybrid will be produced in Mirafiori. Stellantis CEO Carlo Tavares announced this during a meeting with the unions. Stellantis will manufacture the new car on the 500e platform, which previously did not reach 80,000 units per year. They plan to produce 125,000 Fiat 500 Hybrids annually, raising Mirafiori’s total production to 200,000 units per year. Production will start in early 2026.

Positive Union Reactions:

Roberto Di Maulo, General Secretary of Fismic Confsal, expressed optimism following the meeting:. “We consider today’s meeting with CEO Tavares very positive. As he reassured us that Stellantis does not intend to abandon Italy and will continue to invest in all Italian factories, not just Mirafiori. Stellantis plans new models at all sites, which will bring employment to full saturation in the coming years.”

Antonio Spera, National Secretary of Ugl Metalmeccanici, echoed this sentiment: “As Ugl Metalmeccanici, we fully embrace the ambition shared with the Italian Government of reaching one million vehicles produced in Italy by 2030. However, this will require a favorable business environment. Which is currently challenged by the uncertainties of electrification and strong competition from new market operators. Fortunately, from Tavares, we received what we expected: a change from previous meetings, with concrete indications on the models, starting from Mirafiori and continuing to all other factories, and on volumes. Overall, this is an important result for us.”

Future Hiring Plans for New Fiat 500

“At this stage, we will also need a new hiring plan. To encourage generational turnover within the factory,.” commented Bianco and Caretti, General Secretaries of CISL Turin and Piedmont. “At every level, we will support our federation of metalworkers to reach a framework agreement. As soon as possible with all the main players in the field:. from the government to the company,. from the unions to the industrialists of the sector to achieve the goal of one million cars in our country.”

The announcement marks a significant commitment from Stellantis to the future of Italian automotive manufacturing, ensuring continued investment and job growth across its Italian sites.
