Muharram: Arts Council Karachi Holds Niaz-e-Imam Hussain to Promote Unity and Harmony

Muharram was observed with a message of unity, tolerance and interfaith harmony as the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi hosted its annual Niaz-e-Imam Hussain at the Jaun Elia Lawn, bringing together leading literary, cultural, political and social personalities.

The ceremony attracted a large number of Arts Council members, writers, poets, artists, journalists and public figures. Governor Sindh Nihal Hashmi attended the event as the chief guest, while Arts Council President Mohammad Ahmed Shah, Secretary Ejaz Farooqi, members of the Governing Body and Executive Director Daniyal Umar welcomed the guests.

Among the attendees were Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, Inspector General of Police Sindh Javed Alam Odho, Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani, Waqar Mehdi, senior journalists, poets and other distinguished personalities from various sectors.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Nihal Hashmi described Niaz-e-Imam Hussain as one of the Arts Council’s long-standing traditions that reflects unity and mutual respect. He said it was encouraging to see writers, poets, artists, journalists and people from different backgrounds gathered under one roof.

The governor stressed that political differences should never become an obstacle to the development and prosperity of Sindh, urging all stakeholders to work collectively for the province’s progress.

Political leader Waqar Mehdi praised Mohammad Ahmed Shah for his contributions to promoting art and culture and for strengthening unity among the Arts Council’s members.

Arts Council President Mohammad Ahmed Shah said the event aims to promote the teachings of Imam Hussain (A.S.), including love, brotherhood, tolerance and mutual respect.

He noted that, as in previous years, the gathering brought together people from diverse professions and backgrounds, including writers, poets, artists, journalists, social activists and political leaders.

“The Arts Council has always remained committed to preserving traditions that strengthen unity, harmony and mutual respect within society,” Shah said, thanking participants for their continued support and trust.

Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani said the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (A.S.) continues to inspire humanity with the timeless values of truth, justice, patience and steadfastness. He added that such events help promote social harmony and strengthen the spirit of brotherhood.

Inspector General of Police Sindh Javed Alam Odho said Muharram carries a message of peace, tolerance and selflessness. He described the Arts Council’s annual tradition as a valuable initiative that brings together people from different segments of society and encourages mutual understanding.

Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad commended the Arts Council for its contributions to literature, culture and community engagement, saying the institution continues to play a vital role in promoting social harmony alongside the arts.

The annual Niaz-e-Imam Hussain remains one of the Arts Council’s signature Muharram events, reflecting the institution’s commitment to preserving cultural traditions while promoting peace, unity and respect across society.
