World Photography Day: Karachi Speakers Honour Photojournalists’ Role in Journalism
Media figures at Karachi Press Club highlight how powerful images document events, strengthen news reports and preserve history
Journalists and photojournalists gather at Karachi Press Club to mark World Photography Day.
KARACHI: Photojournalists remain a vital part of modern journalism because their images can document major events and communicate facts with powerful visual impact, speakers said at a ceremony marking World Photography Day.
The Photographers Association of Press Pakistan (PAPP) organised the event at the Karachi Press Club. Prominent journalists, photographers and members of the media community attended the ceremony.
Karachi Press Club President Fazil Jameeli and Secretary Aslam Khan joined Chief Guest G.M. Jamali and other senior media professionals at the event.
Among those present were A.H. Khanzada, Maqsood Yousufi, Tahir Hassan Khan, PAPP President Muhammad Jameel, Secretary Nauman Nizami, Rana Tahir, Imran Ahmed, Ejaz Korai, Javed Iqbal, Laiq Alam Nawab and Junaid Ahmed Rajput.
Images Strengthen the News
Speaking at the ceremony, G.M. Jamali described photography as one of journalism’s strongest pillars.
He said a single photograph could sometimes communicate a message more effectively than a lengthy report.

Jamali praised photojournalists for working in difficult and sometimes dangerous circumstances. They regularly cover accidents, natural disasters, political activities, sporting events and other major developments.
He noted that photographers often put their own safety at risk while capturing events for the public.
Digital Media Increases Photography’s Importance
PAPP President Muhammad Jameel and Secretary Nauman Nizami said timely and meaningful photographs can significantly increase the impact of news reports.
They said strong images also help readers understand events and situations more clearly.
The speakers noted that photography has gained even greater importance with the rapid growth of digital platforms and social media. News audiences increasingly encounter stories through images and short visual content.
Karachi Press Club President Fazil Jameeli and Secretary Aslam Khan also praised the professional contributions of photojournalists.
They said photographers help preserve important moments of history and urged media organisations to provide better professional opportunities and support for photographers.
Photojournalists as Witnesses to History

The ceremony concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony to mark World Photography Day. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to promoting photography and supporting the professional rights of photographers and photojournalists.
