ISLAMABAD, August 24, 2026: Pakistan has stepped up preparations for the South Asian Games 2027, with officials discussing arrangements for the regional sporting event and ways to expand opportunities for young athletes.
Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan met a delegation from the South Asia Olympic Council (SAOC) at the Prime Minister’s Office.
The meeting focused on preparations for the 14th South Asian Games and strategies to strengthen sports and youth development across Pakistan.
Three Cities to Host Games
Pakistan will host the 14th South Asian Games from April 3 to 11, 2027. Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar will host competitions during the Games.
Athletes from across South Asia are expected to take part in the regional event. Pakistan will use the Games to showcase its sporting talent and strengthen its position as a host for major regional competitions.

The event will also provide Pakistani athletes with an opportunity to compete against leading players from neighbouring countries on home soil.

Officials discussed the importance of creating greater opportunities for young people to participate in sports and develop their talents.
The programme aims to use sports as a platform for youth empowerment while supporting the development of athletes who can represent Pakistan at national and international competitions.
With preparations underway, Pakistan is looking to use the South Asian Games 2027 not only as a major sporting event but also as an opportunity to promote youth participation and develop future champions.
