Monsoon Safety: K-Electric Advises Karachi Residents to Stay Alert During Rainy Season
Power utility activates emergency preparedness measures, completes network upgrades and urges the public to avoid electrical infrastructure in waterlogged areas.

K-Electric teams prepare Karachi's power network ahead of the monsoon season.
Monsoon Safety remains a top priority as K-Electric (KE) has urged Karachi residents to exercise caution during the rainy season, warning the public to stay away from electrical infrastructure, particularly in waterlogged areas, as monsoon showers are forecast for the city.
The utility said its operational teams are on high alert and are continuously monitoring weather conditions and the city’s power supply network. KE added that its management is working closely with civic agencies and the city administration to ensure a coordinated response based on updates from the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
KE said it has completed extensive preventive maintenance across its feeder, generation and transmission networks ahead of the monsoon season to improve the reliability and resilience of Karachi’s electricity system.

As part of these efforts, maintenance work was carried out at all grid stations, including the replacement of faulty connectors and busbars to strengthen the transmission network and minimise service disruptions during heavy rainfall.
The company also invested more than PKR 1.2 billion in infrastructure safety projects aimed at enhancing the reliability of its distribution network. The completed upgrades include replacing more than 1,100 electricity poles, upgrading several Pole Mounted Transformer (PMT) structures, earthing over 2,000 service brackets, and replacing meters and busbars in 241 multi-storey buildings.
KE further converted five kilometres of overhead power lines into underground infrastructure, installed insulators on 3,997 pole stay units, and replaced circuit breakers and distribution boards at more than 250 PMTs.
KE spokesperson Imran Rana urged residents to maintain a safe distance from electricity poles, service brackets, meters and damaged or tangled power and internet cables, especially where rainwater has accumulated.
“As monsoon activity continues, ensuring public safety requires both operational preparedness and responsible public behaviour,” Rana said. “Strict adherence to safety guidelines and close coordination between utilities and civic authorities are essential to reducing risks and maintaining the city’s resilience.”
He also advised residents to exercise caution inside their homes by avoiding contact with electrical switches, sockets or exposed wiring that may have come into contact with rainwater.
