Pakistan’s Mohammad Asif has secured a spot in the semi-finals of the ongoing Asian 6-Red Snooker Championship being held in Colombo.
In a thrilling quarter-final clash, Asif began strongly against Malaysia’s Lim Kok Leong, clinching the first three frames with scores of 0-67, 21-41, and 19-27, building a 3-0 lead. However, Lim Kok Leong responded by taking the next two frames, narrowing the gap to 3-2, aided by a missed black ball from Asif in the fifth frame.
Asif bounced back by claiming the sixth frame, but the seventh belonged entirely to the Malaysian, who prevented Asif from potting a single ball. The eighth and final frame of the best-of-nine encounter was a nail-biter, with both players neck and neck until the last few balls.
In a decisive moment, Lim Kok Leong missed the pink ball, giving Asif the opportunity to seal the match with a composed pot.
The final frame scores were: 0-67, 21-41, 19-27, 59-5, 32-41, 25-38, 68-0, and 21-35.
Mohammad Asif will now face another Malaysian contender, Thor Chuan Leong, in the semi-final scheduled for tomorrow.
