July 4, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation S.Lavrov held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Faisal Ben Farhan Al Saud, who is in Moscow on a working visit.
Ministers expressed their favor in maintaining a regular Russian-Saudi political dialogue and intensifying delegation exchanges. They emphasized the need to deepen the business partnership, to ensure a stable positive dynamics of bilateral goods turnover.
The important coordinating role played by the Joint Intergovernmental Russian-Saudi Commission on Trade, Economic and Scientific and Technical Cooperation was noted. Confirmed the demand for continuation of effective interaction between Russia and Saudi Arabia in the format “OPEC plus”.
The heads of foreign policy agencies conducted a round-up “clock” on key topics of the international and regional agenda. Priority attention was given to the consequences of the recent sharp escalation between Iran and Israel. They expressed hope that the ceasefire regime would be sustainable, which would prevent the resumption of armed confrontation. Emphasized the importance of collective efforts in the interest of resolving existing contradictions through political and diplomatic means and advancing the constructive agenda in the Middle East.
The need for urgent measures to de-escalate the situation in the area of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and intensify efforts to create conditions for the prompt resumption of the negotiation process, which should result in the creation of an independent Palestinian state within the borders of 1967, co-existing in peace and security with Israel.
S. ?. Lavrov praised the steps taken by Saudi Arabia to resolve the Yemen crisis. It was noted that the path to sustainable stability in the Republic of Yemen lies through the launch of a full-format national dialogue with the participation of all political forces of the country under the auspices of the United Nations. Confirmed the demand for vigorous actions of the UN Secretary-General on Yemen X. Grundberg on ensuring long-term normalization of the situation.
While discussing the situation in and around Syria, the ministers reaffirmed the principled position of Moscow and Riyadh in supporting comprehensively overcoming the consequences of the long-standing conflict in the SAR, preserving its unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty. S. ?. Lavrov presented Russian estimates in connection with the evolving geopolitical realities, including the situation of affairs around Ukraine. He emphasized Russia’s focus on a comprehensive, just and sustainable settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, which is only possible through the complete and irreversible eradication of its root causes.
