Minister of Energy Imtiaz Shaikh appreciates work of SECMC at Thar Coal Block-2

KARACHI – Provincial Energy Minister Mr. Imtiaz Shaikh along with a delegation recently visited the Thar Coal Block-2 project. Talking to the local media representatives, the Minister appreciated the work being done at Block-2, while the other members of the delegation also appreciated the Diversity and Inclusion approach of SECMC and pledged support to the company’s safety standards and employment opportunities it is generating for the local populace. 

The minister, also the Chairman of the Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) and the Thar Foundation, was accompanied by Members of Provincial Assembly (MPA) – Mr. Qasim Siraj Soomro and Mr. Zia Lanjar, while Senator – Gayanchand, Special Assistant to Chief Minister – Veerji Kolhi, and the Deputy Commissioner of Tharparkar – Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Soho also graced the occasion.

The Chief Executive Officer of SECMC, Mr. Amir Iqbal welcomed the high-level delegation, along with the Vice-President Human-Resources and Administration, Mr. Zeshan Khan, Director Site, Mr. Zia Haider, and the General Manager CSR, Public Affairs & Communications at SECMC, Mr. Naseer Memon.

The delegation appreciated the progress on the SECMC Mining Project at Thar Coal Block-2, where they met the diligent Women Dump-Truck Drivers, the Women R.O. Plant Operators, and the local Thari engineers and other employees, being professionally trained by SECMC. They also visited the Thar Foundation Hospital and the Thar Foundation Primary School, established at village Maan Singh Bheel, where the delegation distributed certificates among the best students.

The extensive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) work by SECMC was also appreciated, along with the efforts for resettlement of displaced people.

Mr. Amir Iqbal expressed his gratitude to the provincial and federal leadership for their precious time and support given to this mega-project, while the Chairman of SECMC is also giving personal attention & guidance to keep the team motivated for excellence. He assured the Minister that SECMC will continue to maintain the highest standards of HSE and operational performance. Every stakeholder of this project is committed to ensure a positive impact on the national economy, while transforming the lives of the local communities.
