Karachi : Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab stated that making Karachi clean and green is his mission, and efforts are being made to involve NGOs, community groups, youth, and children in this campaign. He emphasized that these groups will prioritize tree plantation and cleanliness in the future. He was addressing a tree plantation event at Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim, Clifton, in connection with Pakistan Defense Day. The event, which also featured the opening of a recreational maze for children, was organized by CWA in collaboration with KMC.
CWA Chairman Shaukat Umari also addressed the gathering, and over 300 children from Nabeel Pak School, Nasira School, four government primary schools, and 150 teachers participated. Representatives from various social organizations, including National Forum for Environment and Health President Muhammad Naeem Qureshi, Jillani Yousuf, Mrs. Iqbal, and Sara Chapra, were also present.
Shaukat Umari shared that the event was held to honor Pakistan’s martyrs on Defense Day. He announced that 1,000 trees would be planted in Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim, with KMC taking responsibility for their maintenance. Additionally, a tree maze has been created for both children and adults, free of charge. Umari highlighted that CWA had previously established a city forest and conducted large-scale tree plantation over 12 acres at Mazar-e-Quaid.
Mayor Wahab took an oath from the children to actively participate in cleanliness and tree plantation. He assured that KMC would collaborate with all NGOs and community groups. After the event, the mayor, along with Shaukat Umari, Jillani Yousuf, Muhammad Naeem Qureshi, Sara Chapra, and others, planted trees with the children and toured the recreational maze, appreciating the unique initiative.
The event had a festive atmosphere, with children singing patriotic songs and enjoying ice cream, burgers, and juices.
