ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has rejected a viral video allegedly showing Defence Minister Khawaja Asif comparing Pakistan’s development with India, describing the clip as fake and AI-generated.
The ministry shared the video on its official X account on Monday and warned the public against circulating unverified content. It said Khawaja Asif had not made the remarks attributed to him in the clip.
The nearly one-minute video appeared to show the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader speaking at a press conference on a major news channel. However, the ministry said the voice in the footage had been generated using artificial intelligence.
According to the ministry, the video falsely portrayed Asif as questioning Pakistan’s progress since independence and comparing it with India’s development in technology, infrastructure and the economy.

The alleged remarks also referred to political and security challenges in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The video further appeared to show the minister questioning Pakistan’s democratic system and government policies.
The clip gained attention on social media before being picked up by some Indian media outlets. News18 published a report based on the alleged remarks, further increasing the video’s reach online.
However, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting rejected the claims and urged users to verify information before sharing it.
“This news is FAKE and the voice in the video is AI-generated,” the ministry said.
It clarified that Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had not issued any such statement. The same clarification was also published by the ministry’s fact-checking account on X.
The incident highlights growing concerns over the use of artificial intelligence to create misleading videos involving public figures. Such manipulated content can spread rapidly across social media and create confusion before authorities have an opportunity to verify it.
The ministry therefore advised citizens to rely on official sources when checking statements attributed to government officials.
