Pakistan Film and TV Journalists Association Announces Unopposed Office-Bearers for 2026-28

Dr Hamamir elected president, SM Shakir named general secretary, while former president Abdul Wasi Qureshi becomes lifetime vice chairman.

KARACHI: The Pakistan Film and TV Journalists Association has formally announced its office-bearers for the 2026-28 term, with all candidates elected unopposed.

Election Committee Chairman Hassan Imam Siddiqui announced the names of the newly elected officials. Election Committee members Farooq Arshi, Rehan Mahmood Khan, Asif Ahmed Khan and Athar Iqbal were also present.

According to the announcement, Dr Hamamir has been elected president, while Muhammad Nasir and Sarwat Jabeen will serve as vice presidents. SM Shakir has been elected general secretary.

Syed Karam Ali Shah and Sehar Hussain were elected joint secretaries. Naeem Habib will serve as treasurer, Waseem Khan as information secretary and Mustafa Mallah as social secretary.

New Managing Committee Formed

The association has also formed its new managing committee. Its members include Zeeshan Siddiqui, GM Khasikhaili, Sarfraz Siyal, Maqbool Ahmed Barfat, Mujeeb Qureshi, Abid Bashir, Muhammad Sultan and Aslam Rajput.

Speaking after his election, Dr Hamamir said his unopposed selection as president was a matter of pride and happiness. He described the position as a major responsibility and pledged to work with fellow members to strengthen the association.

He said the association would focus on protecting journalists’ rights and promoting the welfare of professionals associated with the film, television and theatre industries.

Association Marks 45 Years

Former president Abdul Wasi Qureshi said the Pakistan Film and TV Journalists Association has remained active for the past 45 years.

He said the association had also launched a new membership drive this year. The initiative has opened membership opportunities for showbiz journalists working in print, electronic and social media.

Chairman Athar Javed Sufi highlighted the association’s contribution to the welfare of artists and the entertainment industry. He said the organisation had arranged numerous programmes in different cities and assured the new leadership of his full cooperation.

Newly elected General Secretary Syed Muhammad Ghaus, popularly known as SM Shakir, said the association would introduce new reforms and proposals at its upcoming meeting.

He said the new leadership would also discuss seminars, workshops and welfare initiatives planned for the 2026-28 term.

Abdul Wasi Qureshi Named Lifetime Vice Chairman

The newly elected office-bearers unanimously passed a resolution recognising former president Abdul Wasi Qureshi for his valuable services to the association.

The members subsequently elected him lifetime vice chairman.

Senior journalist Athar Javed Sufi is already serving as the association’s lifetime chairman. During the ceremony, both senior figures received tribute for their longstanding contributions.

Former general secretary Pervez Mazhar, Ashraf Memon, Qasim Patel, Liaquat Sheikh, Rana Tahir, Sarfraz Fareed Nihash, Javed Jiye Ja, Tahir Nawab, Anwar Ahmed Mandub, Syed Rashid Fatimi, Abdul Sattar Mandhra, Mirza Mehboob Alam, Javed Aziz, Wali Rais, Malik Arshad and newly inducted members also attended the gathering.
