Karachi: The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry has expressed serious concern over a targeted firing incident in New Karachi in which industrialist Farzand Ali, a member of the North Karachi Association of Trade & Industry, was critically injured.

KCCI President Rehan Hanif said the attack reflects a worsening law and order situation in the city and signals the resurgence of organised extortion networks targeting the business community.
According to the statement, the victim sustained two bullet wounds and was shifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The incident triggered strong reactions from traders and industrialists, many of whom visited the hospital to express solidarity.
Rehan Hanif condemned the attack and urged authorities to take immediate and decisive action, calling for the arrest of those involved and stronger intelligence-based policing in industrial zones.
He warned that continued inaction could damage investor confidence, disrupt industrial activity, and further weaken Karachi’s fragile economic environment, discouraging both local and foreign investment.
The KCCI president stressed the need for a comprehensive security framework for the business community, stating that extortion threats must be treated as high-priority crimes with swift response and accountability from law enforcement agencies.
He also called for the full operationalisation of the Safe City project across Karachi, particularly in industrial areas, highlighting the importance of surveillance systems, real-time monitoring, and rapid response mechanisms to counter criminal networks.
Rehan Hanif cautioned that if the situation does not improve, the business community may be forced to consider organised protest actions to protect their safety and economic interests.
