Karachi Finalises Independence Day Plans as Mazar-e-Quaid Ceremony Takes Centre Stage

KARACHI: The Karachi administration has finalised arrangements for the 79th Independence Day, with a major flag-hoisting ceremony planned at Mazar-e-Quaid as the city prepares to mark August 14 with patriotic events.

Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, members of the provincial cabinet and senior government officials will attend the ceremony at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

The dignitaries will hoist the national flag, lay a floral wreath at the mausoleum and offer Fateha. The ceremony will highlight the importance of Pakistan’s independence and the sacrifices made during the country’s struggle for freedom.

Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi has directed deputy commissioners across the city’s districts to make comprehensive arrangements for Independence Day programmes. The administration plans to organise events that promote patriotism and encourage public participation.

As part of the preparations, the District Administration Central organised a special Independence Day event at Jinnah College on Wednesday in collaboration with the college.

Commissioner Hassan Naqvi attended the event as chief guest, where he hoisted the national flag and cut the Independence Day cake. Deputy Commissioner Central Taha Saleem, College Principal Kamran Kazmi, teachers, prominent personalities and a large number of students also participated.

Addressing the gathering, Naqvi described students as the country’s most valuable asset and the architects of its future. He praised their enthusiastic participation and said their patriotism reflected a strong connection with the country.

The commissioner said education, hard work and good character were among the country’s greatest strengths. He encouraged students to use their knowledge and abilities to contribute to Pakistan’s development.

Students performed patriotic songs and expressed their love for Pakistan during the ceremony. Their participation added to the festive atmosphere and highlighted the role of young people in Independence Day celebrations.

Naqvi has also directed deputy commissioners to organise large-scale events in their respective districts in collaboration with educational institutions and non-governmental organisations.

The administration plans special decorations and illumination across Karachi. Educational institutions and important public buildings will host programmes, while major roads, intersections and key locations will be decorated with national flags and lights.

The commissioner instructed deputy commissioners, municipal bodies and development agencies to coordinate their efforts and ensure that celebrations reflect the significance of Independence Day.

The city administration is also encouraging citizens, particularly young people, to participate actively in the programmes and celebrate the occasion with a spirit of unity, patriotism and national pride.
