Iran Reviews US Proposals Amid Strait Tensions

Iran said it is reviewing proposals from the United States amid ongoing diplomatic engagement, even as tensions escalated again over the strategic Strait of Hormuz during a fragile ceasefire.

According to Iranian state media, the proposals were conveyed during the recent visit of Asim Munir, who is playing a key mediating role in efforts to de-escalate the conflict. Tehran has not yet issued a formal response.

Meanwhile, Iran’s military announced a renewed tightening of control over the Strait of Hormuz, warning that the critical energy corridor would be closed until Washington lifts its naval blockade on Iranian ports. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy stated that any vessel attempting to approach the waterway without authorization could be targeted.

Iranian officials described the move as a response to what they termed continued violations of the ceasefire by the United States, particularly the ongoing maritime restrictions. Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei issued a stern warning, saying Iran’s naval forces were prepared to deliver “new bitter defeats” to its adversaries.

On the other hand, Donald Trump signaled cautious optimism, stating that “very good conversations” were taking place with Iran. Speaking at the White House, he emphasized that negotiations were progressing, though he maintained a tough stance on Tehran’s actions and capabilities.

Trump also convened a high-level meeting in the White House Situation Room with senior officials to assess the evolving situation. Reports suggest that while diplomatic progress is being made, failure to reach a breakthrough could lead to a resumption of hostilities within days.

The renewed uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz — a vital route for global oil shipments — has raised concerns about disruptions to international energy markets, even as both sides continue to signal willingness for dialogue.

Pakistan, which brokered the current ceasefire, remains actively engaged in facilitating talks, with further negotiations expected in Islamabad in the coming days.
