According to Indian media outlet The New Indian Express, Canadian immigration authorities have identified around 30,000 asylum applicants as ineligible, including approximately 9,000 Indian nationals. Some individuals have reportedly been instructed to leave the country following the enforcement of revised policies.
The report suggests that many cases involve individuals whose visa status has expired or whose asylum claims no longer meet updated eligibility criteria under Canada’s immigration framework.
The developments have triggered debate in India over overseas migration trends, with concerns raised about unregulated recruitment networks and fraudulent visa practices affecting young job seekers abroad.
Analysts cited in the discussion argue that the situation highlights broader challenges related to illegal immigration networks operating across borders, though no official Canadian statement attributing collective wrongdoing to Indian citizens has been confirmed in the report.
Experts also note that tightening immigration rules in several countries has increased pressure on overstayed visa holders and asylum seekers globally, affecting multiple nationalities, not just Indian applicants.
The issue has sparked renewed attention on the risks faced by young migrants seeking employment and asylum opportunities abroad through informal or unauthorised channels.
