All Commerce Reports In a press release issued here today, Pakistan Horticulture Development & Export Company informed that PHDEC has launched its most desired initiative of “the Pilot Project on Mango Bagging” in collaboration with University of Sindh, Tando Jam, Sindh Abadgar Group, Sindh Mango Growers Association and Genuine Delight Farms.
The launching ceremony was conducted at Genuine Delight Farms (Tando Allah Yar0 where a large of progressive mango growers, representatives from Sindh Agriculture Department, R&D, and Academia witnessed the launching ceremony.
Mr. Athar Hussain Khokhar, CEO PHDEC welcomed the participants in his opening remarks and highlighted the importance of the pilot project for the mango industry. Mr. Mahmood Nawaz Shah, Vice President Sindh Abadagar Group and a renowned mango grower speaking at the occasion appreciated PHDEC initiative hoping that the activity will prove fruitful for the growers who have volunteered for being part of the pilot project. He added that Pakistani mango is not getting its due space in the high end markets and such initiatives by PHDEC may help in increasing the quality of Pakistani mangoes.
Mr Umar Bughio, President Sindh Mango Grower Association not only appreciated the initiative but also added that Pakistani mango faces export issues even in markets like Islamic Republic of Iran and Afhanistan. He added that during mango export season, unreasonable barriers at Taftan border creates panic and concern among exporters. He emphasized that Government of Pakistan should ensure the regular opening of the border for mango exports to Iran and Afghanistan. Dr. Zulfiqar Yousfani, appreciated the activity by adding that such activities would definitely motivate the mango growers to bag their mango fruit to get premium price at domestic and international markets. Mr. Khawar Nadeem, Manager Agri Products highlighted the technical aspects and the protocols of the activity with the participants. Dr. Mujahid Laghari from Singh Agriculture University educated the participants on the process and benefits of mango bagging highlighting the time widow best suitable for mango bagging.
Secretary TDAP, Dr Fareed Iqbal Qureshi while giving his closing remarks assured the participants that PHDEC along with TDAP will leave stone unturned to overcome the hurdles in the way of mango export during the upcoming export season.
He thanked all the participants and stakeholders for their time and effort informing that PHDEC is also going to conduct the mango bagging exercise in Multan during the month.
