The federal government has imposed a ban on dance performances to Indian songs in Pakistani theater productions and has directed provincial authorities to take legal action against individuals involved in such acts.
According to federal officials, the move is part of efforts to counter what they describe as the expansionist policies of the Hindutva-driven Indian regime. The development also comes amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and India following alleged unprovoked Indian attacks on several Pakistani cities.
Information Minister has also voiced strong concerns over inappropriate content in stage dramas and emphasized that any dance performances set to Indian music must face legal consequences. Theater producers will also be held accountable for any content considered immoral or offensive.
This directive adds to existing restrictions, including the ongoing ban on screening Indian films in Pakistan and the prohibition of Indian songs on FM radio stations—measures originally implemented in response to India’s hostile actions toward Pakistan.
